The thinking behind Bayou.

Hi, I’m Gabe. I’ve been training for over 12 years, and in that time I’ve used a lot of workout trackers, followed a lot of programs, and learned that real fitness rarely fits neatly into a template.

Some great programs do not have apps. Some apps are powerful but unpleasant to use. And many fitness apps have moved toward charging more and more for features that feel like they should simply be part of a good tracker.

Bayou Fitness came from wanting something different.

I wanted to build the best free fitness app I could — not a limited trial, not a stripped-down version, and not an app that makes the basics frustrating until you subscribe.

Bayou Gold exists, but its purpose is to add meaningful value on top of a strong foundation. Premium should feel like an upgrade, not a tollbooth.

Bayou is meant to help you explore your fitness journey, not force a path onto it. Your schedule will change. Your goals will change. Your history will get longer. The app should support that, not make you feel like you are starting over every time life shifts.

Bayou Fitness is built around a few simple beliefs:

  • Core fitness tracking should be free, capable, and enjoyable.
  • Training data should be useful, not overwhelming.
  • Your information should be handled transparently and collected minimally.
  • Intelligence features should save time and surface meaningful insights.

  • The app should be durable enough to support you across programs, seasons, and goals.

My hope is that Bayou feels thoughtful, premium, and genuinely helpful regardless of whether you use the free version or upgrade to Bayou Gold.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bayou only for strength training?

Not at all. Bayou was built to support weight-lifting but it continues to evolve. It supports cardio tracking, step-goal tracking, heart-rate monitoring, nutrition logging, workout notes, and progress visualizations! In fact, I've been more consistent than ever reaching my daily step goal and zone-2 cardio goal since I started working on the app!

Can I import my old workout history?

Of course, and I encourage you to do so! This makes it easier to track PRs and get a better reference for what weights to lift when you start a new program. All new members receive complimentary Bayou Gold for their first week which includes our magic import feature!

Does Bayou work on Apple Watch?

Yes! Currently the Watch OS app syncs with your iPhone and supports logging weights, reps, and sets without the need for your phone.

What is Bayou Gold?

Bayou Gold provides the highest quality convenience features such as macro and calorie estimations, AI-workout and program building, bi-weekly workout insights. Additionally, gold members get highest-priority treatment for feature requests and a (purely cosmetic) gold variant of the Bayou Fitness app icon!

Does Bayou sync with HealthKit?

Absolutely. I personally have been delighted by how logging to HealthKit via Bayou has enabled me to leverage my other fitness apps more fully.
